Tour Plan

01

Day 1: Casablanca – Chefchaoun

This morning, stroll through the city’s Habous district and the Mechouar, the ceremonial meeting place outside the Royal Palace. Drive through the elegant Anfa neighborhood on the way to Blue city drive for around 3 hours to the Riff Mountains where the small town of Chefchaoun situated in the edge of two peaks. Depends on our arrival to Chefchaoun we may have time to enjoy capturing some first photos in the blue city of Chefchaoun.

Day 2: Exploring Chefchaoun

We wake up in this charming town, with steep narrow streets, paved with stones that have been polished by thousands of feet over the centuries. The homes are painted blue, white, azure blue, indigo, and purple and have blue shutters and elaborately decorated doorways. As we start exploring this magnificent city perched high in the Riff Mountains it will appear that the photographic opportunities are endless.

Day 3: Chefchaoun – Fes

After the breakfast we start driving towards the old city of Fez, a medieval world treasure and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend the day exploring this magnificent imperial city. At the 14th-century Bou Inania madrassa, photograph intricately carved stucco walls, arches, and cornices. Zoom in on the exquisite mosaics that cover Nejjarine Fountain, and visit the Kairaouine Mosque. Venture into the vibrant medina, where merchants preside over colorful mounds of spices and tanners soak skins in vats of dye. Later, visit the Royal Palace and Fes Jdid, home to the historic Jewish quarter. Enjoy the souk were merchants sell mounds of colorful spices, carpets, silks and leather goods and visit the legendary tanneries where the city’s renowned leather is made with sweat and knowledge passed down generations.

Day 4: Fes – Imilchil

Our 4 day focuses is on nature, small villages, Berber Mountain people, and fields. We start early morning from Fes and drive towards Irfan; the Switzerland of Morocco, as it is known for its exceptional character. Then we continue towards Azro forest, where we will stop to picture the Barbary Apes, one of the beautiful native Moroccan animals. The road will continue through Midelt and the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n’Telghemt(1903m). After the Atlas Mountains, the landscape changes to a more desert, dry landscape. We continue along a small road through fields where locals are always working among the amazing colors of the poplar trees, particularly in autumn. We reach Imilchil before sunset and stop to take photographs of one of the lakes there such as Tislit (the groom). Overnight in a hotel.

Day 5: Imilchil – Todgha Gorges- Tizi n Tzazert – Nkob

Another day of adventure starts early for the ones who are interested to picture the sunrise over the lake. After breakfast, we drive down along the river towards the Gorge of Todgha. After lunch we will continue towards Tizi n T’zazert. We will off road among the amazing volcanic mountain of Jbel Saghro. Often there will be nomads grazing their flocks around. We reach Nkob late afternoon where we will spend the night.

Day 6 : Nkob – Zagoura – Chegaga Dunes

Only a half-hour drive and we reach the famous valley of Draa, more than 200km of the date palms, remote villages all along. We will see locals working in their fields and notice the black African roots. We follow the valley for an hour to reach Zagoura city or the capital of dates. Lunch will be there or later in Mhamid. We will drive off-road for 2 hours crossing the stony desert and over the dunes. We arrive at the dunes of Chegaga where the experience of riding a camel for some minutes and picturing the sunset up over the dunes will make your day special, especially after a long day. We stay for one night in a remote Berber desert camp in the erg and dinner under the stars with some music of drums will be a fascinating experience. For those who want to picture the stars, there will be a great opportunity to test your night photography skills. We climb different dunes to get great views of the surrounding sea of sand. The first evening we head to the highest dune in the area. Here we can photograph in all directions as the sun sets behind the horizon and the colors of the desert transform from gold to red, to blue.

Day 7: Chegaga dunes – Foumzguid

With time allocated for photographing the mountains near Lake Iriqui, the Jebel Bani, and Madouar, driving hours will be approx. 2.5 hours from the Erg Chigaga dunes. Another morning shoot concludes our unforgettable stay in the Erg Chigaga dunes. Afterward we have some additional time to enjoy the silence of the Sahara Desert until we head towards the mountainous landscape near Foum Zguid. These spectacular cliffs and mountains have rarely been photographed. By wild camping close by, we will have the opportunity to get some unique photos during both sunset and sunrise. We arrive in the town of Foumzguid, after a break for tea or coffee we continue towards our lunch place. After lunch, we reach the oasis of Fint where our hotel

Day 8 : FoumZguid – Tafraout

We head West today towards the Anti-Atlas mountains takes approx. 5.5 hours.
After photographing sunrise near our wild camp, and having breakfast, the adventure continues as we drive towards the Anti-Atlas to Tafraoute. After checking in to our hotel in the Ameln Valley (outlying Tafraoute) we explore the mountainous landscapes, searching for subjects in the hills full of fascinating rock formations and huge boulders.
This is another area of Morocco that has not been photographed very often, so we will again have plenty of opportunities to come away with original photos.
Our goal for the afternoon is to find subjects to return to early the next morning to photograph under the warm light of dawn.

DAY 9 : Exploring Ameln Valley and Tafraout town

transfer After an early photoshoot in the hills near Tafraoute we head back to our hotel for breakfast and to plan out the rest of the day. The area around Tafraoute provides many beautiful hikes, of which we can do a few shorter ones, visiting some of the spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and/or the local villages. The drivers are available to take us a little further afield which is optional (e.g. to the Ait Mansour Gorge with its palm oasis). If you like exploring and discovering new compositions, then this day will be perfect for you.

Day 10 : Travel to Essaouira at the coast

Driving hours to Essaouira are approx. 6.5 hours (excluding stops).
After an early breakfast we have a long, yet varied drive ahead of us to reach the Atlantic Coast. Descending from the Anti-Atlas Mountains we drive towards Agadir, from there continue northwards along the coast road, then through the Argan Biosphere to reach Essaouira.
Here we spend the evening, exploring the Medina and the ramparts. There we photograph the beautiful coastline into blue hour. It is a beautiful mix of French and Moroccan influences with a distinct atmosphere of Moroccan spices, tiny streets, colors, art, and music. You will find plenty of chances to exercise your camera shutter and then relax for a healthy of fish.

Day 11: Essaouira to Marrakech

The morning is free for you to explore further. Perhaps pick up some local handicrafts at the eye-catching market stalls, or enjoy a final coffee in the square to soak up the easy-going rhythm of this Moroccan town with a European seaside twist. In the afternoon, drive back to Marrakech. Once you have settled in to your hotel, you will likely be drawn back to the Djemaa el-Fna, and its surrounding medina. Eating out at one of the many outdoor restaurants lining the square is a great way to finish your adventure.

Day 12: Exploring Marrakech

We head straight out to explore the various areas of the colorful Medina. Through the narrow alleyways we make our way to the Museum of Photography. Then we head up to the rooftop to photograph the Marrakech skyline with the Atlas Mountains in the distance. Capture the colorful chaos of Djemaa el Fna Square, where there are great photographic opportunities around every corner, from snake charmers and magicians to cooks and musicians. Venture through the souks which are an amazing labyrinth of covered markets mixed with tradesmen practicing their ancient skills. Highlights of the souks are metal workers, wool dyers, and wood carvers.

Day 13: Marrakech

Spend another full day experiencing Marrakech through your viewfinder. Photograph a range of exotic plants in the stunning Majorelle Garden, once owned by Yves Saint-Laurent, and see an exclusive collection of Berber objects originating from diverse regions of Morocco at the Berber Museum. Explore historic Moroccan architecture, Bahia Palace. After lunch, head back into the lively medina for a photo shoot, around the Jmaa el Fna square. For a final dinner concludes our unforgettable adventure through Morocco.
